Abstract

Rapid technological development imposes challenges to university education, modifying the methodology used in the teaching-learning process and including new areas of knowledge, application, and competencies according to the demands of current professional training and present social and economic needs. One is the design of wireless sensor networks, widely used to obtain information and interact with the natural and/or industrial environment. Although in universities worldwide, including Cuban universities, numerous undergraduate and master's theses have been developed on this subject, their specific design approaches prevent the necessary generalization for their teaching during professional training. To provide a solution to the aforementioned problematic situation, qualitative research was carried out, the results of which are presented in this article in the form of a didactic strategy elaborated on basic pedagogical and professional concepts. Its validity was confirmed through experiences obtained in environmental applications, both indoors and outdoors. The design processes of both cases are presented, reflecting how the links established between the three pillars ̶ Scenario, Requirements, and Architecture ̶ guide the designer's thinking to organize his work, foresee the social relevance and usefulness of the application, as well as drive the development of competencies to achieve the stated goal. Due to its flexibility and proven adaptability, this didactic strategy can be used in diverse scenarios.
