Abstract

This work proposes the development of an automatic transponder system for monitoring vessels with the use of the Automatic Identification System (AIS). The general composition of the design begins with the reception of the AIS protocol in the very high frequency (VHF) band. Once the signal is received, the demodulation and decoding of the data of interest for monitoring is carried out, which includes positioning and navigation parameters of each vessel. The transmission of information to the control centers is carried out in the 2.4 GHz band using a radio frequency (RF) modem from the manufacturer DIGI. Although existing technical means were used for the research and can be reproduced with similar devices if one wishes to vary or add new features. The validation tests were carried out under laboratory conditions and fundamental parameters in this type of communication are analyzed. The system obtained can be applied in means of transport or maritime signaling.
